The first generation of Lexus LX, the LX 450, was launched in 1996. It was the first full size luxury SUV of Lexus and was based on the highly successful and dependable Toyota Land Cruiser. Due to its success, the second generation, the LX 470, was launched just two years after and because of strong demand, it went on production until 2006. Now on its third generation LX, Lexus launched the latest Lexus LX 570 in 2007 at the New York International Auto Show for the 2008 model.
The 2008 Lexus LX has 5.7 liter V8 32 valve four-wheel drive engine which produces 383 hp at 5,600 rpm and 403 lb/ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. It has six-speed sequential-shift automatic Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT). It has full-time four-wheel drive with TORSEN limited slip center differential. For ultimate traction control and stability, it has an electronic Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Crawl Control with Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).
For optimum driving performance, it has electronic Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (dual VVT-i) and Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence (ETCS-i). It has a compression ratio of 10.2:1 and has a top speed of 137 mph electronically limited. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. For the comfort and luxury not found in other luxury SUV, the Lexus LX has front independent, double-wishbone, electronically controlled shock absorbers and stabilizer bar; rear four-link with coil springs, electronically controlled shock absorbers and stabilizer bar; and Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) with Active Height Control System (X-AHC) and automatic load leveling suspension system.
To ensure the most responsive braking in case of emergency, it has four-wheel, power-assisted ventilated disc brakes (13.4 in ventilated with four-piston calipers front discs and13.6 in ventilated rear discs), multi-terrain Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Brake Assist, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). And for added security and safety, it has Advanced front airbag system (SRS), Seat-mounted side airbag (SRS), Side Roll-Sensing Curtain Airbag (RSCA) (SRS), Knee airbag (SRS) for the driver. For the front passenger, it has Advanced front airbag system (SRS) with occupant sensor, Seat-mounted side airbag (SRS), Side Roll-Sensing Curtain Airbag (RSCA) (SRS) and Knee airbag (SRS). For the second row passengers, it has Seat-mounted side airbags (SRS) and Side Roll-Sensing Curtain Airbag (RSCA) (SRS). For the third row passenger, it has Side Roll-Sensing Curtain Airbag (RSCA) (SRS). Standard seatbelts are the three-point seatbelts for all seating positions, seatbelt pre-tensioners for front- and second-row outboard seats, seatbelt force limiters for front-row seats and Automatic Locking Retractor/ Emergency Locking Retractor (ALR/ELR) seatbelts for all passenger-seating positions and Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) for the driver's seat. For the ultimate protection, it has reinforced ladder-type frame, side-impact door beams and impact-dissipating upper interior trim. It also has front and rear crumple zones and collapsible steering column.
The Lexus LX has a length of 196.5 in, height of 75.6 in and width of 77.6 in and its wheelbase is 112.2 in. Its ground clearance is 8.9 in. while its curb weight is 5995 lb. Its maximum towing capacity is 8,500 lb and its maximum payload capacity is 1,411 lb.
