Lexus Buyer's Guide

ES



The Lexus ES is a mid size luxury sedan based on the Toyota Camry with V6 engine. The first generation ES was on the market from 1989 to 1991 and it had some of the features of the Camry. The second generation ES, which was released until 2006, had Toyota Windom’s body style. The fifth generation and latest ES, the ES 350, which was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show in 2006, has Lexus’s distinctive body style. It was released in the United States in April of 2006. It was released for the Middle East, Asia and North American market the same year.

The current Lexus ES is a four-door, front wheel drive, five-passenger luxury sedan body type. It is certified Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV II). It has a 3.5 liter V6 engine which gives it 272 hp at 6,200 rpm and 254 lb/ft torque at 4,700 rpm. It is fitted with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i). It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds and it has a top speed of 137 mph electronically limited. For additional stability and traction control, the ES has six-speed sequential-shift automatic Electronically Controlled Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i), electronic Traction Control (TRAC) and electronic Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). For suspension it has front independent, MacPherson struts with coil springs, gas-pressured shock absorbers and stabilizer bar and rear independent, dual-link MacPherson struts with coil springs, gas-pressurized shock absorbers and stabilizer bar.

And for the most convenient and comfortable driving experience,  it has the standard cruise control, automatic front/rear climate control, dual-zone automatic climate control with automatic recirculation mode, SmartAccess for remote keyless ignition, remote-linked windows, power tilt-and-slide remote-linked moonroof with one-touch open/close and sliding sunshade, HomeLink Transceiver for easy access and control of garage, gate, home lighting and home security systems, power doors, windows, mirrors and seats. It also has Rearview mirror compass, trip computer, electroluminescent instrumentation, steering wheel control audio display, adjustable steering wheel. Additional options include power seat extender, heated and ventilated front seats, auto-dimming and auto tilt-down in reverse mirrors, panorama glass roof, full color backup camera, Lexus Premium Sound System with Bluetooth technology, voice-activated DVD navigation system with backup camera and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

For a perfect audio and entertainment system, it has Lexus Premium Sound System with Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL) and single CD player with eight speakers, in-glass satellite antenna with FM-diversity feature, and MP3 / Windows Media® Audio (WMA) compatibility (miniplug). Additional audio options include Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound Audio System with 7.1-channel architecture and in-dash, single-feed, six-disc DVD/CD auto-changer with 14 speakers, and XM Satellite Radio or SIRIUS Satellite Radio capability.

With luxury comes safety and the new ES comes with Advanced front (SRS), Side seat-mounted (SRS), Side curtain (SRS), and Knee (SRS) driver airbags; Advanced front twin chamber (SRS), Side seat-mounted (SRS),

Side curtain (SRS), Knee (SRS) front passenger airbags; and Side curtain (SRS) and Side seat-mounted (SRS) rear passenger airbags. It is also fitted with the standard Anti-lock Braking (ABS), Braking Assist, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), side-impact door beams, reinforced pillars and doorsills, impact-dissipating upper interior trim, front and rear crumple zones, collapsible steering column, Three-point seatbelts for all seating positions with shoulder belt anchor-height adjusters for front seats, front and rear outboard seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters, Automatic Locking Retractor/Emergency Locking Retractor (ALR/ELR) seatbelts for all passenger seating positions.

Other features of the ES include child restraint seat, automatic on/off projector-beam headlamps with 30-second delay, Electrochromic auto-dimming inside rearview mirror with compass, water-repellent front-door glass with UV reduction and Daytime Running Lights (DRL).
