BMW Buyer's Guide

BMW X6 review and specifications

BMW introduced the so called Sports Activity Coupe in 2008, this new vehicle platform not just introduces a whole new array of safety and drving featuers but more than likely wil start/ started a new trend in the automotive industry, walking around the new BMW X6 we cannot help, but realize the amazing engineering, design and a new way of approaching the sensation of driving.

For the 2008 model year BMW offers two models in the X6 line up the 4.4L V8 powered top model called xDrive50i using a twin turbocharged 400hp engine and the xDrive35i with a 300hp inline six twin turbo, that BMW first introduced in the e90 3 series 335i. As of the date we wrote this article we only had a chance to drive the xDrive35i version, and we can honestly say that this engine performs excellent in the new BMW X6 however if you planning to go out and chase Porsche's Cayenne Turbo you might want to opt for the V8 model.

The power is distributed by sending 40% to the front and 60% to the back of the vehicles all wheel drive system under normal driving conditions - BMW introduces a new technology in the X6 the so called Dynamic Preformance Control this feature is responsible for the amazing stability and sport car like feeling when driving the X6 distributing the power between the rear wheels with it's computer system and new rear differential with two planetary gearsets and double clutch gear.

The BMW X6 comes as standard with BMW's intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive technology with electronic control for variable distribution of drive power between the front and rear axles, consistently adjusted to driving conditions at all times and in all situations.

The new V8 engine with Twin Turbo technology and direct gasoline injection, is likewise making its world debut in the BMW X6. Displacing 4.4 liters, this eight-cylinder with maximum engine output of 400 hp and peak torque of 450 lb-ft available over an unusually large range of engine speed from 1,800-4,500 rpm, is the most powerful engine ever seen in a BMW X Model.
The new eight-cylinder is indeed truly impressive not only through its outstanding thrust and pulling force, but also through its compact dimensions. For this is the first eight-cylinder gasoline engine in the world to feature its turbocharger in the V-section between the two rows of cylinders.

Various design features typical of BMW also stand out in the car's details, ranging from the BMW kidney grille to the dual round headlights optically "cut off" at the top and the powerful contour line along the side, all the way to the horizontal lines at the rear emphasizing the sheer width of the vehicle.
