BMW E39 5 series Specs & Information

BMW E39 5 series. The E34 model 5 series reached the end of it’s production life in 1995, BMW yet again successfully reinvented it’s midsize luxury sedan with the new e39 platform. The new 5 series debuted in 1995 and received great reviews from BMW fans and the automotive press world wide. In 2001 it received a “face lift” that made it even more appealing for the last 3 years of production. A new wide screen navigation system became available as well. The BMW e39 was offered in two platforms including a four door sedan and a touring version, and in 1999 the motorsport version the E39 M5 .emerged with a first ever V8 engine in an M car. Production of BMWs E39 ended with the 2004 model year as the 60 BMW 5 series enetered the market.

Engine options: 525, 528i, 530i, 540i, as 2.5 2.8 and 3.0 M52 engines and the well known 4.4liter V8 from the BMW 7 series. cars. The new BMW M5 came with a 4.9 liter V8 S62 engine. In 2003 the e39 BMW entered the last year of production after almost a decade of sales, to give way to the new BMW 5 series the E60

My all time favorite has always been the touring model from the e39 5 series BMW, they are very spacous and even though heavier I think these are one of the best looking tourings you can find between anufacturers. The 540i touring offers sport car ability with a huge cargo space, the 528i and 525i tourings are a little under powered.

Driving impressions: Considered by many one of the last BMW that has the “BMW” appearance, these cars are a great value for the money.

In the power department : I would not consider buying anything less than the 3.0 inline six powered 530i based on my personal experience with this particular model I found the 528i and 525i under powered for it’s weight and size, the 3.0 variant has plenty of power on the other hand and the 290hp powered V8 simply talks for itself. If you won’t mind driving one with a manual transmission I would say it’s the way to go, I could reach significantly better mpg with this setup on the 540i.

Prices are getting more and more inviting as this model ages and is a very good choice with it’s timeless looks and great reliability. Sport package equipped vehicles have factory sports wheels with staggered set up, sports suspension and seating, one of the best looking steering wheels and an updated look, I would not take a car without this package.
