AUDI Buyer's Guide

A6 C6 Spacifications & Information

The Audi A6 C6 was launched in 2005 as the successor of the Audi C5. The C6 had many innovative features which were not found in the old C5 including the new Audi frame grille and the new Multi Media Interface (MMI). The C6 was also designed by Walter de Silva and compared with the old C5 it is quite different in design and is longer.

The new Audi MMI is the latest system controlling the carís satellite navigation features, settings such as suspension configuration, entertainment system, climate control and other electronic functions through the central screen interface. This allows the driver to easily access all the usual functions with the use of minimum buttons. With the many functions and features the new C6 it would have too many buttons on the dashboards had it been for the Multi Media Interface. This MMI allow operation of several devices using one central screen display.

The C6, also has for the first time, the FSI direct injection technology. This technology was previously found only on the race cars but with the redesigned C6, it is now able to use it as well. It also has the new Multitronic automatic transmission and of course the Triptronic gearbox in most models. Most of the models, those with the manual Triptronic gearbox, have the quattro all wheel drive system, but it is not available for the ones with the Multitronic automatic transmission.

This allroad quarto was the off-road version of the Avant model and it is available in 2.7 diesel, 3.0 diesel, 3.2 petrol and 4.2 petrol engines. That same year, 2006, the S6 or the sports model of the A6 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It had a Lamborgihini derived 5.2 liter V10 FSI engine which produces 435 PS (320 kW). The Audi RS6, which is even more powerful than the S6, is slated to be released in 2008. It will have another Lamborghini derived 5.0 liter V10 TFSI engine which can produce 580 PS (462 kW).

The Audi A6 C6 had won several awards including landing on the Ten Best List of Car and Driver Magazine and the World Car of the Year for 2005.The third generation of Audi A6 C6 has a slightly different look from the previous generation. It had a redesigned front bumper fascia, larger lower grills for both sides, bigger bottom lip which is similar with the A5 and the A3 Cabrio and has rectangular fog lamps. The front grille also has fewer horizontal slats and the bar for license plate was removed to have a more continuous grille space. The rear bumper is almost the same but the taillights have a new LED design.
