AUDI Buyer's Guide
A4 B8 Spacifications & Information
The latest of Audiís A4, the B8 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September of 2007. The latest A4 B8 had a completely new interior and exterior although in some ways it is similar with the A5 B8 and the S5 coupe. The new A4 B8 has Audiís latest modular longitudinal platform (MLP) technology. The MLP is also available in the A5, the Q5 crossover SUV, the Q7 and the A8. This new system places the engine and the transmission further behind the axle without needing to lengthen the carís dimension. This makes the new Audi A4 less front heavy than the previous A4s. With the new Quattro four wheel drive system and the MLP the new Audi A4 B8 offers superior handling capability which its predecessors did not have.
The interior of the new A4 of course offers the same comfort and luxury typical of the name Audi. It has world class interior trim for all the variants. The cabin is almost the same as the A5 but with more rake console. Very noticeable are the well designed gauges and the new climate control and audio center stack. The armrest is also adjustable to give the driver the most comfortable driving experience. The seats are almost the same in luxury as with the previous A4 but the ample legroom really makes a difference for the passenger.
The Audi A4 B8 is available in Saloon and Avant models in different engine variants: the 1.8 liter (1798 cc) 16-valve I4 (petrol/gasoline) engine, producing 160 PS (118 kW), has a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.6 s; the 3.2 liter (3123 cc) 24-valve V6 (petrol/gasoline) engine, producing 265 PS (195 kW), has a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 s; the 2.0 liter (1968 cc) 16-valve TDI I4 (diesel) engine, producing 143 PS (105 kW), has a top speed of 215 km/h (134 mph) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.4 s; the 2.7 liter (2698 cc) 24-valve TDI V6 (diesel) engine, producing 190 PS (140 kW), has a top speed of 226 km/h (140 mph) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.7 s; and the 3.0 liter (2967 cc) 24-valve TDI V6 (diesel) engine, producing 240 PS (176 kW), has a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) and can accelerate form 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.1 s.
The new Quattro four wheel drive system, which has 40:60 font to rear distribution ratio and was only previously available in the RS4, is now a standard of the 3.2 liter petrol engine and the 3.0 liter V6 diesel engine. The A4 B8 is longer than its predecessor by 12 cm and this can be felt in the rear seating legroom. And it has almost three inches decrease in the front and rear overhang. For the saloon version, the trunk now has 480 liter (17 cu.ft.) capacity. Overall, the new A4 definitely looks bigger but more elegant and definitely sleeker than its predecessor.
Additional features of the A4 B8 includes split folding seats, LED Daylight running lights, six airbags, Thatcham category 1 alarm and immobilizer and ESP. Optional features include rear side airbags, Multi mode interface of driver information and entertainment systems (MMI) and lane departure and blind spot warning systems.
